An Atlanta medical practice waiting room was attacked Wednesday by a man who shot one woman and wounded four others. While the manhunt was underway, workers and others took refuge in a bustling commercial district.
Several hundred police officers swarmed the city's midtown neighborhood shortly after noon in search of the shooter. In a statement, police identified the suspect as 24-year-old Deion Patterson, who was captured in Cobb County, northwest of Atlanta.
In a news conference Wednesday night, law enforcement officials said Patterson opened fire at a Northside Medical building shortly after arriving for an appointment. He then went to a Shell gas station and stole an unattended pickup truck left running.
The full investigation is still underway.
