'Scary' advances in AI could mean internet users no longer know what is true, warns Geoffrey Hinton.
British-born Hinton, 75, often referred to as the “godfather of AI” for his groundbreaking research that underpins today’s artificial intelligence systems, told the New York Times that he has serious concerns about how fast companies like Open AI, with its ChatGPT tool, and Google, with Bard, are developing their products, especially if it could compromise safety.
Hinton is so concerned that he even admitted that he regrets his past efforts in the field.
According to Hinton, regulating the technology will be difficult since companies and governments can work on it in secret. He suggested that the best way to deal with the issue is to get leading scientists together to develop ways to control it.
